Mirar en the Mirror
Once upon a time there was a land of vast resources, cheap labor and limited governmental controls. This land spawned a mighty and bloody empire founded on smuggling, slavery and indentured servitude. Following in the footsteps of all civilizations preceding it. Sound familiar?

I can see the end of civilization from my perch here at Starbuck's in the high-end Fillmore (lower Pacific Heights of SF-ness). The women are coiffed, pampered, starved and snotty. The men are absent accept for ruddy-nosed, wine-soaked retirees and traveling salesmen. The rest are just passing through, trying to get a taste of the good life. Meanwhile, in a place far from here, the death toll rises. Can't wait for $20/gal gas.
